A city of regional significance in the Halych Raion (district) in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast (region) of Ukraine, with a special status along with Halych.
Its name means 'Amber'.
Population - 15,114 (2018).
It is known for its coal-thermal electric station and the lake, locally categorized as a sea.
The first mention of this town was in a Halych history book from 1596 as Nove Selo ('New Village'), although the town establishment dates back to 1554.
In 1809, Franz Xaver Mozart, an Austrian composer and a son of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, lived in Burshtyn, which was a part of the Austrian Empire at that times.
